Blog 11 – rainy days and Sundays
As the subtitle suggests it’s a Sunday and yes you got it. Sitting in our dining room (they stick me in here with ‘the light’s much better in there, you won’t strain your eyes and so on) wondering why the door has the lock on the outside??!! Lol. Its been a busy time both with home and away. The kids at home have had a hectic (nice old word) couple of weeks with working long hours and the son working through the nights. Life can be hard but look on the bright side, they’ve got me. Not a great reason to be happy but hey who worries, when you’re my age your expectations start with waking up in the morning (as well as twenty times during the night to pee).Being able to dress oneself ( sounds posh). Get your own breakfast, some of those packets can be a real challenge, and as for pouring the milk so it actually goes into the dish – hopefully the same one that has the cereal in, life can be a challenge. I’ll not get into washing up (dishwasher) and cleaning, making your own bed (never a mother about when you need one) laundry etc.etc. but it all helps to pass the day away, other than that I’d be working. I have a reputation – not that sort of reputation- for never sitting still for more than five minutes, apparently my idea of relaxing is laying slabs in the garden. So -- perhaps, maybe, I admit nothing, there are many ways of relaxing, acting brain dead being mine. Don’t tell anyone, if you do I’ll find you …..
For the past few months the close family have been talking about my mobility ( bit of a small issue but as I say - old) and said that I ought to get a mobility scooter, a suggestion I must admit I was against. Guess what -go on bet you can’t?! darn it! you have! Yep, got it last week – bright red bodywork, choice of gears (two – one forward, the second one ) ruck sack on the back AND a basket on the front – dreamy huh?. It goes to a maximum of 4mph and a range of 20 miles at best – so no trips to the coast for a spot of windsurfing (used to be level 2 RYA ), might just reach the river by the local park - deep joy. Comparing these stats against my last (in more ways than one -another blog to look out for) car they pale. Last vehicle was a MB AMG S350d with all the extras, but my last drive is yet to come – it will be a day to remember – I’ll tell you all about it next month. But as I haven’t done any distance on it yet I’m positive I’ll have some fun.
Yesterday was a brilliant day with family around helping, well doing really, relaying the patio outside the lounge. We had us followed by -first generation -kids, second generation -grandkids, third generation - great grandkids, a multitude of noises and activities with the final triumph that after being in the house for 30+ years we have a patio that is level and only needs cleaning down (guess who’ll be having a crack at that) and it’ll be the business.
The girls are off open water swimming this afternoon, maybe the lad but not yours truly. No I’m going to the DIY on my scooter!! Brave on yet another level. Over the next few days we have to get ourselves sorted because we are off on a cruise to see the Norwegian fjords – seven days of views and pampering in many ways. I’ve my new case to fill, got to collect my JB outfit from the tailors (DJ or Tux – not sure which one to take), must try on my new patent leather loafers (part of the JB kit) and to decide whether to buy a Rolex to complete the look. What do yah reckin? JOKING!!
With this being a day of rest, I must take advantage and cat nap when I have the chance because I presume that all the action will start tomorrow.
